Making a Difference - Green Valley Project at Surfer’s Point

Ventura Youth Council at Surfers Point Beach.

The Green Valley Project is tackling the issue of litter in our communities.

On October 2nd and 9th, the Green Valley Project - Ventura Youth Council collected 46.5 pounds of trash from Surfer’s Point Beach during two Beach Clean-Up events.

This included:

  • 171 pieces of plastics/ rubber

  • 103 pieces of metal

  • 177 pieces of paper / cardboard

  • 29 pieces of food waste

  • 77 pieces of glass

  • 251 cigarette butts

  • 50 pieces of trash listed “Other”

We walked from trash can to trash can along the coastline. We looked at the condition of each trash can and we surveyed every piece of litter found surrounding the area. Afterwards, we reflected on what we observed during our Clean-Up. Finally, we shared ideas on how to improve the problem of litter by our local beach.

We’ll be returning to Surfer’s Point on October 23rd for a Community Beach Clean-Up! Follow us on social media! Stay tuned for more information on events making a difference in our community with the Green Valley Project!
